Scholarships currently available are listed under links section and forms for some are available by going to forms, then clicking on the guidance tab.  You can then download the forms and print them to complete and send to the scholarship providers.  The scholarships listed from past years are still listed to give you an idea of what is out there.  Many of the scholarship links have been updated.  Check those weekly for new information.

 For college specific financial aid information contact the college you are interested in attending.  Many colleges have financial aid deadlines as early as October 31.  Check with the college you plan to attend for their information.  The links section has links to colleges that are most often requested by NJHS students. 

Students may begin applying for Federal Financial Aid for the 2013 - 2014 School Year in January 2013.  Go to the links section for information.  You will need your 2012 tax information to complete your applications.  See Mr. Tate, Coach Brown, or contact Mrs. Riggs at North Alabama Center for  Educational Excellence (Talent Search) at 256.259.3072.  If you have already finished high school contact the college you attend for their school specific financial aid opportunities.

    State of Alabama Required Testing

                                            DATES FOR THE ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION EXAM

Fall High School Graduation Exam is September 17 - 21, 2012

Mid-year High School Graduation Exam is December 3 - 7, 2012

Spring High School Graduation Exam is March 18 - March 22, 2013

Summer High School Graduation Exam July 8 - July 12, 2013 (offered only to seniors from 2013 and juniors from 2013 - 2014.)

          This year all tenth grade students will take the PLAN Assessment

The test will be given at school and take only one day.  The day assignned will be between October 16 - 23, 2013 and will be announced later this fall.

             This year students taking the following classes must pass an end of course test

More details will be released by the State Department of Education at a later date.  The tests will be given in the Fall for courses taken in the Fall semester and in the Spring for courses taken in the Spring semester.

Courses requiring an end of Course Exam are: English 9, English 10 , English 11; Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry; Biology, Chemistry; and United States History

 Other testing available

PSAT Exam is offered to juniors who want to enter the National Merit Scholars Scholarship Competition

The PSAT is the test that is used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarships.  It will only be given once at North Jackson this year.  Our assigned date is Wednesday, October 17, 2012.  It will start at 7:45 A.M. and last until about 12:30 PM.  The cost is $ 14.00 which must be paid no later than September 17, 2012.  Students who register but do not take the test will be charged a $ 3.00 fee to pay for the booklet they ordered if someone does not take their place in the testing.  Checks should be made to North Jackson High School or you may pay with cash.  Only juniors can enter the National Merit Scholarship  Competition, but tenth grade students may register to take the test for practice for their junior year.  See Mr. Tate to register for the PSAT.

          DATES AND REGISTRATION DEADLINES FOR ACT TESTING

Seniors should take the ACT in September or October in order to receive scores in time for most scholarships, especially at  the major four year colleges.  Check with the school you will attend for their scholarship deadlines.

ACT requests that students register for the ACT on line. Go to the link, http://www.actstudent.org/ , for online registration and many more related services.

     September 18, 2012 ACT - Register before August 17, 2012 - Late fee required August 18 - 24, 2012

     October 27, 2012 - Register before September 21, 2012 - Late fee required September 22 - October 5, 2012

     December 8, 2012 ACT - Register before November 2, 2012 - Late fee required November 3 - 16, 2012

     February 19, 2013 ACT - Register before January 11, 2013 - Late fee required January 12 - 18, 2013

     April 13, 2013 ACT - Register before March 8, 2013 - Late fee required March 9 - 22, 2013

     June 8, 2013 ACT - Register before May 3, 2013 - Late fee required May 4 - 17, 2013

      If you miss the late fee deadline you may register to test as a standby examinee.  There is an additional fee for this.
